The Aquatic Diagnostic Laboratory offers many different types of diagnostic assays for aquatic organisms, specializing in shellfish and finfish diseases.
We provide disease testing for all life stages, larvae to adult. The type of testing needed is dependent on the host species and pathogens of concern. Please see the descriptions of the diagnostic services offered and submission instructions.
Bacteriology
The study and identification of bacteria that cause infectious diseases, using culture, staining, and biochemical testing to support accurate diagnosis and treatment.
Histopathology
The microscopic examination of tissue samples to detect disease-related changes in cells and tissue structure, aiding in the diagnosis of infections, inflammation, and other pathological conditions.
Molecular Assays
PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) and quantitative PCR are techniques used to detect and measure specific genetic material from pathogens, allowing for rapid, sensitive, and precise diagnosis of infectious diseases.
Parasitology
Focuses on the detection and identification of parasites, including protozoa and helminths, in clinical samples to diagnose parasitic infections and guide appropriate treatment.
